William Derbyshire
William Derbyshire is a Director at Economic Consulting Associates (ECA), based in Bangkok, where he leads ECA’s work across Asia-Pacific. An energy economist with three decades of experience, he helps governments, regulators and development partners build the market, regulatory and financing foundations for a more connected, renewable-powered Southeast Asia. His work spans the full ASEAN Power Grid agenda: from the design of wholesale electricity markets in Viet Nam and the Philippines, to new financing models for grid infrastructure and interconnectors in Lao PDR, to a regional study on mobilising international climate finance for APG transmission investments.
William is Project Director of Green Grids Rising under the ASEAN-UK Green Transition Fund, where he is helping ASEAN bodies and utilities strengthen grid resilience through cross-border interconnection, smart grid development and options for repurposing coal-fired power plants, so that the region can trade more power, integrate more renewables and move faster toward a cleaner, more integrated power system.
