Sascha Oppowa is an Energy Project Director at GIZ, currently leading the project "Clean, Affordable and Secure Energy for Southeast Asia" (CASE), funded by the German Government. CASE supports energy transitions in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, as well as regional energy cooperation, specifically strengthening the ASEAN Power Grid (APG). Believing in the transformative potential of cross-border electricity trade, Sascha works with ASEAN institutions, governments, and development partners to advance the APG as a cornerstone of energy security, enabling least-cost electricity generation, and building a more linked and resilient Southeast Asian power system for the mutual benefit of all participating countries. Since joining GIZ in 2014, Sascha has built extensive expertise in sustainable energy and climate policy, among others as part of the German delegation at UNFCCC conferences (2015-2016).
