Peter Govindasamy

Peter Govindasamy is the Executive Director of the Energy Studies Institute (ESI) at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He is concurrently the Director-General (International Trade and ASEAN) and Dean of the MTI Academy at Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry.  With over three decades of experience in public service, Peter has held roles in foreign affairs, international trade, energy, climate diplomacy, and sustainable development. Having begun his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Peter represented Singapore in various international forums, including the World Trade Organization, the United Nations, and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. As Chief Negotiator he successfully concluded the Singapore-Pacific Alliance Free Trade Agreement negotiations in 2021. As Senior Adviser to the UAE Presidency of COP28, he advanced international efforts on climate action and energy transition. Peter is Co-Chair of the Katowice Committee of Experts on the Impacts of Response Measures and chairs the related international negotiation process.
