Purnendu Kumar Chaubey
Purnendu Kumar Chaubey is a globally recognized renewable energy thought leader with deep expertise across solar, wind, energy storage, and power transmission. As Senior Vice President at ReNew—one of the world’s leading clean energy companies—he plays a pivotal role in driving strategic business development and policy advocacy, shaping the trajectory of sustainable energy markets. He is also a member of ReNew’s Executive Committee, contributing to the company’s long-term vision and growth strategy.
With over 28 years of experience spanning renewable energy, battery energy storage systems (BESS), grid integration, and power infrastructure, Purnendu has held leadership roles at leading organizations including SoftBank, Accenture, IDFC, and Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL). His career is marked by significant contributions to grid evacuation and connectivity, transmission planning, and large-scale renewable energy deployment. At SB Energy, he was instrumental in expanding the company’s renewable portfolio by 3 GW within three years.
His experience extends across South East Asia and the Middle East, bringing a strong global perspective to energy transition challenges. A regular speaker at international forums across Europe, Asia, and the United States, he shares insights on renewable integration, policy frameworks, and evolving energy systems. He has also participated in high-level global engagements such as Intersolar Europe 2023 and the Indo-German CEO Roundtable 2024.
Purnendu holds key leadership roles across industry bodies, serving as Secretary of Wind Independent Power Producer Association (WIPPA), Member of the Power Committee at Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), and Executive Council Member at National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEF), where he chairs the Storage & FDRE Working Group and the Rajasthan Taskforce. He also serves as President of the Harit Molecules Foundation (HMF), a non-profit industry association focused on advancing India’s Green Hydrogen and derivatives ecosystem by enabling policy, market development, and industry collaboration.
Widely respected for his strategic vision and stakeholder engagement, Purnendu is known for building consensus, navigating complex challenges, and driving impactful initiatives. His leadership continues to influence the global clean energy transition.
He holds a B.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur and an MBA in Strategy & Leadership from the Asian Institute of Management (AIM), Philippines.
